RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — The IOC says preparations for the 2016 Olympics are on schedule and there is no reason to warn Rio de Janeiro organizers about delays.

Still, International Olympic Committee officials say there is a need to remain vigilant in a “critical” year for the games.

The IOC coordination commission ended its three-day visit Wednesday saying it saw “solid progress” but recognized there was still a “large amount of work to be done” and “time remains of the essence.”

The commission leaves without knowing the games’ official budget, calling for a completed plan for accommodations and for some of the venues.

The commission was making its first visit of the year to Rio, and fourth since the city won the bid for the first games in South America.
