Beaumont’s layup lifts Elon over Samford 63-62

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Ryley Beaumont had 14 points and a career-high 14 rebounds and made a layup with 8 seconds left to lift Elon to a 63-62 victory over Samford on Thursday night.

Raijon Kelly hit a jumper with 26 seconds remaining to put Samford ahead 62-61. Those were the only two baskets scored in the final 3:01.

Jack Isenbarger scored 15 points and Tanner Samson had 11 for the Phoenix (19-8, 12-3 Southern Conference), who have won 11 of their past 12 games, including four straight.

Clide Geffrard Jr. scored 24 points and Kelly had 17 points and 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs (10-18, 8-7), whose two-game winning streak ended. It was Samford’s first loss to Elon at home.

Elon led 38-30 at halftime, but Kelly’s trey pushed Samford ahead 46-41 5:53 in. Isenbarger hit a 3-pointer for 59-53 advantage at 5:48, but Samford led 60-59 on Kelly’s jumper at 3:21.
