Jacksonville State beats UNC Asheville 71-69

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Ronnie Boggs scored on a tip shot as time expired to lift Jacksonville State to a 71-69 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday.

Jacksonville State, which had a nine-point lead in the second half, fell behind 67-66 when Trent Meyer scored on a layup with 40 seconds left to play. The Gamecocks regained the lead at 69-67 with 27 seconds left when Tarvin Gaines made a 3-pointer.

Sam Hughes tied the game at 69-all on two free throws with 8 seconds left, but Boggs answered with his tip shot off a Brian Williams missed jumper for Jacksonville State (17-10).

Gaines scored 18 points for the Gamecocks, who have won two straight games. Williams had 15 points and seven rebounds. Boggs and Darion Rackley each had 13 points.

Jeremy Atkinson scored 29 points for the Bulldogs (15-14), who have lost four straight. Corey Littlejohn finished with 19 points and seven rebounds.
