Letter: Museum needs local management

The Columbian
Published: February 23, 2013, 4:00pm

I support Pearson Air Museum being run by the Fort Vancouver National Trust as opposed to the museum being run by the National Park Service.

I served on the city of Vancouver Aviation Advisory Committee for 12 years during the battle with the NPS to keep Pearson an operating air field, so I’m a bit skeptical regarding NPS tactics.

The NPS has wanted the airfield closed for decades. The operation of a viable museum with the promise of education of our youth and support of the airfield goes against their vision.

The NPS officials only want their vision, no other. That said, I urge all to read the following story I found on The Columbian’s website: http://bit.ly/Zhtecb. This story has been widely read in aviation circles, but it is important that every citizen of Vancouver and Clark County read it as well.
