EVERETT — An 87-year-old man accused of shooting an employee at a Stanwood assisted living home has died.

The Daily Herald reports the Snohomish County medical examiner’s office was notified Tuesday that Arthur Hames died of natural causes at a hospital after he was moved Feb. 15 from the jail.

Hames had been accused of assault in the shooting Feb. 4 in a supervisor’s office at Josephine Sunset Home. The 59-year-old victim, Roger Holbrook, was wounded in the stomach and survived.

Hames told detectives he had been bullied at the home. The home says there’s no evidence he was mistreated.
