Chat with Port of Vancouver officials

The deepening of the Columbia River navigation channel to 43 feet, a massive 20-year project, has allowed larger, more heavily loaded vessels to call on local ports, including the Port of Vancouver.

The deepening of the Columbia River navigation channel to 43 feet, a massive 20-year project, has allowed larger, more heavily loaded vessels to call on local ports, including the Port of Vancouver.

The Columbian will host a live online chat (see below) with Port of Vancouver Commissioner President Jerry Oliver and Executive Director Todd Coleman today, aiming to give the public an opportunity to ask questions, and to understand the port's budget, operations and priorities. Join the conversation, from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The live online chat follows the Port of Vancouver Board of Commissioners' annual Commission Forum, to be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday. Commissioners Oliver, Nancy Baker and Brian Wolfe, joined by Coleman, will review the port's cargo tonnage and earnings for 2012, and share their perspectives on how global trade trends affect regional marine and industrial business. The forum, available for viewing live on Clark-Vancouver Television (channels 21 and 23), will be facilitated by Lynn Valenter, vice chancellor for finance and operations at Washington State University Vancouver. The public may watch a replay of the forum by visiting either http://www.portvanusa.com/ or http://www.cityofvancouver.us/cvtv/cvtvindex.asp.
