BUSTO ARSIZIO, Italy (AP) — An exhibition soccer match between AC Milan and lower division club Pro Patria has been suspended because of racist chants.
The game was interrupted and later suspended because of chants directed at several Milan players, despite appeals to stop from the public address announcer.
The Gazzetta dello Sport reports Thursday that Ghana midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng took off his shirt after repeated abuse and left the field with his Milan teammates. Urby Emanuelson, Sulley Muntari and M’Baye Niang also were reportedly targeted.
Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said there needed to be a “signal” against racism, adding that there has been “enough incivility.”
Milan is preparing to return from the holiday break against Siena on Sunday.
