Shumway — Vancouver School of Arts and Academics 2011 alum Steven Goforth is spending time in the spotlight as part of the Nevada Ballet Theatre, which recently wrapped up its production of “The Nutcracker.” Goforth, a Vancouver native, auditioned for the well-regarded ballet company and dance academy in February, and soon after landed a job. Before moving to Las Vegas in September to start the 2012-13 ballet season, Goforth performed with Columbia Dance in Vancouver. In “The Nutcracker,” he played a party guest and the Snow Prince, a role that required lifting and supporting the Winter Fairy as they dance. Goforth said Nevada Ballet Theatre Artistic Director James Canfield has been very supportive. “He taught me how to be more present as a (dance) partner and to think of the choreography as more than just lifting,” Goforth wrote in an email.
