Letter: We must protect ourselves

The Columbian
Published: January 2, 2013, 4:00pm

To those who believe that law-abiding citizens should be barred the right to bear arms and defend themselves: We all know how well that turned out at Sandy Hook Elementary. The laws and school policies currently in place created the environment of unarmed citizens that contributed to the scale of this crime.

This was just one more example of an attempt to ignore the fact that there is evil in this world, and that taking the shortcut (gun control laws) doesn’t deal with criminals with evil intent.

I just don’t get it.

We protect our nation with men and women with very large guns.

We protect our borders with men and women with guns.

We protect our politicians with men and women with guns.

We protect our gold and Federal Reserve with men and women with guns.

However, those who are our most precious asset, our children, are protected at school by liberal kooks who teach our children that guns are bad.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.

Until we all realize that government cannot protect us from evil and learn that this responsibility lies solely upon our own shoulders, we will continue to suffer tragedies like Sandy Hook and others.
