Morehead State beats SIU-Edwardsville 68-64

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) — Milton Chavis scored 16 points, and Chad Posthumus added nine points and a career-high 19 rebounds as Morehead State held on to beat Southern Illinois-Edwardsville 68-64 Thursday night in the Ohio Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Posthumus’ 19 boards are the most by any OVC player this season.

Angelo Warner scored 14 points and Drew Kelly added 12 for Morehead State (7-8).

After trailing by as many as 13 points in the second half, 39-26, at the 17:37 mark, SIU-Edwardsville (4-7) cut the lead to five, 65-60, with a pair of free throws by Michael Messer and another by Jerome Jones.

Chavis’ dunk with 36 seconds left and subsequent turnover by the Kris Davis sealed the victory for the Eagles.

Maurice Wiltz made 4 of 5 3-pointers, and led the Cougars with 16 points.
