ZAGREB, Croatia (AP) — Jens Byggmark of Sweden led defending overall champion Marcel Hirscher by 0.01 seconds after the first run of a men’s World Cup slalom on Sunday.

In rainy and partly foggy conditions, Byggmark was the first racer on the course and finished in 58.65 seconds.

Hirscher, who leads the slalom standings, won the race last year.

Stefano Gross of Italy was 0.14 back in third, and Ivica Kostelic of Croatia trailed Byggmark by 0.23 in fourth.

Kostelic, the 2011 overall champion, finished on the podium of his home race four times in the last five years but is yet to win it.

Felix Neureuther of Germany, who won the Munich city event on Tuesday and is second to Hirscher in the discipline standings, was 0.55 off the lead in seventh.
