Campbell outlasts Gardner-Webb 93-81 in triple OT

BUIES CREEK, N.C. (AP) — Darian Hooker scored nine of his 15 points in the third overtime as Campbell pulled away from Gardner-Webb 93-81 Saturday in the Big South Conference opener for both teams.

The Camels (6-9), who won their second straight overtime game, outscored the Runnin’ Bulldogs 18-6 in the final overtime period, closing out the game with a 10-0 run.

The teams were tied at 31 at halftime and at 64 at the end of regulation after Isaiah Ivey made all three of his free-throw attempts with 4 seconds left to help Gardner-Webb (8-7) overcome a 10-point second-half deficit.

Trey Freeman, who led Campbell with a season-high 24 points to go along with nine assists, hit two free throws to force the second overtime, in which each team scored four points. Tashan Newsome, who led the Runnin’ Bulldogs with 26 points, made 1 of 2 foul shots to knot it the last time.
