Fire caused an estimated $167,000 damage to four apartments in Orchards early Saturday morning.

Vancouver Fire Capt. Kevin Murray said the fire at the Orchard Pointe Apartments, 3508 N.E. 109th Ave., broke out at 3:36 a.m.

Flames were seen coming out of windows on the second floor and firefighters called a second alarm, Murray said.

The residents of the four apartments escaped unharmed.

One apartment had heavy fire damage; the one below it had water damage. Two other apartment units had smoke and water damage, Murray said; none of the residents could stay in their homes.

Murray said 33 firefighters worked at the fire. No one was hurt.

The fire began in combustibles that were too close to a baseboard heater. Murray said such materials should always be kept at least 3 feet from any heat source.
