Girls basketball: Hudson’s Bay 49, Kelso 45

Hudson’s Bay rode a strong defensive effort to a 49-45 home win over Kelso in a Class 3A Greater St. Helens League girls basketball game on Monday.

Kelso scored only two second-quarter points, allowing Hudson’s Bay to take a lead it held throughout the second half.

The Eagles (4-9, 2-2) led by 10 points before Kelso (8-5, 2-2) made a late surge to within two points. Bailey Freeman, who led Hudson’s Bay with 14 points, made two free throws with five seconds left to seal the victory.

Lynnese Harrell and Paris Collins each contributed 12 points and eight rebounds for the victorious Eagles.

Kailynn Rae made five 3-pointers and scored 20 points to lead Kelso, which played without injured Sierra Richards. Kelso made five more 3-pointers than Hudson’s Bay, but hit only 8 of 24 foul shots.
