Vogel eager to keep Pacers momentum with new deal

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- Indiana Pacers coach Frank Vogel likes the message his new contract extension sends.

He says it shows the Pacers' building process is gaining steam and there's no need to change directions.

One day after the team announced it had given Vogel a new deal, he told reporters he was "excited" to coach this team beyond this season. The team has not released terms of the deal. Vogel also declined to provide details on Tuesday before hosting defending NBA champion Miami.

Since Vogel replaced ex-coach Jim O'Brien in January 2011, the Pacers have reached the playoffs twice, won their first playoff series since 2005 and had the Heat down 2-1 in the Eastern Conference semifinals before losing the last three games last spring.
