Esther Short — Six Clark County Sheriff’s Office Explorers got a taste of what it’s like to attend a real police academy last month during a week-long training in Yakima. The young Explorers from Post 893 graduated from Washington Law Enforcement Explorer Advisors Academy on Dec. 31 following a week of exercises meant to challenge them physically, mentally and emotionally. It’s been a few years since the Clark County Sheriff’s Office sent Explorers to the academy, according to a press release. The Explorer Program lets students between 151/2 and 21 years old observe the criminal justice system by assisting the Sheriff’s office in nonenforcement duties and through community service. Explorers that attended the academy included: Cody Alexander, Emily Laurent, Jacinda Rose, Joe Siegel, Marissa Stevens and George Turkov.
