Meadow Homes — The Portland Timbers lived up to their name Saturday when players and staff of the Major League soccer team, joined by other volunteers, planted trees along the 2200 block of Wahclellah Avenue. Vancouver was the first stop in the Portland Timbers’ “Dribble Oregon” tour. Later this month, the Timbers will pay similar visits to Medford, Astoria, Eugene and Klamath Falls, all in Oregon. Before the tree planting Jan. 5, Timbers staff hosted a youth soccer clinic at the Clark County Indoor Sports Center for kids between 5 and 13. The Portland Timbers were joined by helpers from the community, Vancouver’s Urban Forestry Program and the Portland/Vancouver Friends of Trees group. A larger neighborhood planting day will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 12 starting at Evergreen Bible Church, 9600 E. Mill Plain Blvd.
