Letter: Cartoon was misguided

I don't know what The Columbian tried to accomplish with that misleading editorial cartoon published on Jan. 4.
"Pa" of "Ma & Pa's Hardware" is about to lay off a kid, blaming it on "Obama taxing the rich." Well, if that guy is actually taking more than $400,000 out of his hardware store's profit as his salary, it's pretty callous and hypocritical to blame a less than 5 percent tax increase for having to lay off a kid.
Is that how you wish to portray Republicans?
