Letter: How to help our country

Published: January 11, 2013, 4:00pm

The word of God says, “If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from Heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chron. 7:14). All citizens are called by God to repent of their sins.

We were dedicated to God in 1789 by George Washington and the government. In his first inaugural address, Washington said: “The propitious (blessing and favor) smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right, which Heaven itself has ordained.”

All the tragedies, mental and physical illnesses, disasters, poverty, etc., are the results of the combined sins of the people of this country. The moral decay has caused our country to lose its blessings from Heaven and without repentance will only get worse. Each person who chooses to live a sinful lifestyle, disregarding the benefits of godly living, affects the rest of us.

The next time tragedy hits, don’t blame God, remember 2 Chron. 7:14 and know it’s our own fault.
