Savannah State rallies past Coppin State 56-48

BALTIMORE (AP) — Arnold Louis grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds to go along with a season-high 16 points and Savannah State rallied from a nine-point first-half deficit to defeat Coppin State 56-48 Saturday in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.

The Tigers (7-9, 1-1), coming off an 84-40 win over Allen that snapped a six-skid, opened the second half with a 17-2 surge to lead 35-27.

Coppin State closed to 39-37 on Andre Armstrong’s layup with 8:54 left, but Savannah State answered with Preston Blackman’s 3-pointer and Khiry White’s three-point play. The Eagles could get no closer than four in the final 5:19.

Rashad Hassan and Preston Blackman added 10 points apiece for the Tigers.

Coppin State (3-14, 0-2), which led 25-16 with 3:41 left in the first half, posted its lowest scoring output since losing to Texas 69-46 on Nov. 12.

Michael Murray’s 10 points paced the Eagles, who have lost five straight.
