Breast cancer: Two of the scariest words a woman will ever hear. Through the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, an inspirational walk in our community and others throughout the country, many have found hope. This local event helps raise awareness and funds to support the fight against breast cancer.

Through my participation, I have met dozens of survivors in all stages of treatment, family members of loved ones lost, and those who are passionate about finding a cure and supporting the fight.

As communications manager for American Cancer Society, I know that more than 180,000 American women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year and more than 40,000 will die from the disease. We’re closer than ever to eradicating this disease but we can’t do it without community support. To get community members inspired for the upcoming event, a breakfast is being held March 14. For an invitation, call us at 503-795-3958.

On May 11, community members will walk beside friends, family, colleagues and hundreds of survivors at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Portland International Raceway. I urge everyone to join our community as we make strides toward a future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. To get involved, call 503-795-3958 or visit http://www.pdxstrides.org.
