National certification attained by 11 Vancouver teachers

Vancouver Public Schools announced 11 district teachers recently received national board certification, an advanced teaching credential. That brings the district total to 96. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards said that 575 teachers across the nation received national board certification recently.

VPS teachers recently achieving the credential are Jill Altman, Hudson’s Bay High School; Jessica Birno, Chinook Elementary School; Shana Ferguson, Peter S. Ogden Elementary School; Anna Konty, behavior specialist for special education; Caitlin Lash, McLoughlin Middle School; Ramona Lomeli, Sacajawea Elementary School; Jim Newton, Hudson’s Bay High School; Emily Smolen, Eleanor Roosevelt Elementary School; Mary VanderPloeg, Hazel Dell Elementary School; Cheryl Voukidis, Martin Luther King Elementary School; and Amy Young, Skyview High School.
