AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Medical conditions have prompted point guard Cokie Reed and guard Chelsea Bass to retire from the Texas women’s basketball team.

In a statement, Reed said she was retiring with exercise-induced hypertension. The senior is one semester from graduation.

Bass said only that she was ending her career “after careful consideration and extensive insight from the UT medical staff and various doctors.” However, the Austin American-Statesman reports the junior recently suffered her fourth career concussion.

Texas women’s basketball coach Karen Aston said both “represented Texas with class, both on and off the court.”

In seven starts this season, Reed averaged 9.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. Bass played in 57 games, including five starts. She scored 11 points in eight minutes in her last game Nov. 30 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
