Charleston Southern topples UNC Asheville 74-68

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Arlon Harper and Jeremy Sexton scored 15 points apiece, and Charleston Southern pulled away in the second half to beat UNC Asheville 74-68 in a Big South Conference game on Wednesday.

Mathiang Muo had 11 points and Saah Nimley contributed eight points and 11 rebounds for the Buccaneers (9-6, 4-0), who are 8-1 in December and January. They have won five in a row.

Trent Meyer led UNC Asheville (8-10, 2-2) with 22 points, Jeremy Atkinson scored 14 and Will Weeks 11.

UNC Asheville was ahead 30-18 on D.J. Cunningham’s jumper at 8:50 left in the first half and held a 39-30 advantage at the break.

The Buccaneers finally tied it a 55 on Matt Kennedy’s free throws with 11:04 remaining and took the lead for good at 61-60 on Muo’s layup at 7:09. The advantage reached 70-63 on Nimley’s layup with 3:33 left.
