Greiner leads Lehigh past American U 63-57

WASHINGTON (AP) — Holden Greiner scored a season-high 22 points and Lehigh rallied from a 14-point first-half deficit to defeat American University 63-57 Wednesday night and start Patriot League play 2-0 for the first time in six seasons.

Down 23-9 at the 9:08 mark, the Mountain Hawks (12-4) closed the half on a 22-5 run, with Greiner scoring 12 points in the burst, including two 3-pointers.

After Tony Wroblicky dunked to open the second half, making it 31-30, Greiner’s jumper sparked a 7-0 run. The Eagles (6-11, 1-1) got to 40-38 with 14:19 left, but Lehigh answered with a 13-4 spurt.

American’s last push made it 58-55 with 58 seconds remaining, then the Mountain Hawks hit 5 of 8 free throws.

Mackey McKnight added 11 points for Lehigh, which won its third straight despite guard C.J. McCollum being out with a broken foot.

Stephen Lumpkins’ 10 points and 17 rebounds paced the Eagles.
