KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Shayne Whittington scored 12 points and pulled down 13 rebounds Wednesday night, helping Western Michigan build a big lead and cruise to a 79-56 victory over Toledo.

Whittington, who recorded his fifth double-double of the season, added five blocks, three steals and three assists. Darius Paul and David Brown added 15 points apiece for the Broncos (9-7, 1-2 Mid-American), and Nate Hutcheson’s nine points moved him within 76 of 1,000 for his career. Hutcheson was making his 100th career start, the eighth Bronco to reach that mark.

Julius Brown scored 16 points for the Rockets (6-8, 2-1), who shot just 37 percent from the floor.

Western Michigan never trailed, leading 34-19 at halftime and by as many as 26 in the second half. The Broncos outscored the Rockets 38-16 in the paint and outrebounded them 44-26.

Toledo still leads 78-56 in the all-time series, which dates to the 1936-37 season.
