Arkansas-Pine Bluff beats Texas Southern 66-63

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Daniel Broughton scored 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and hit a pair of free throws for Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 2 seconds left to seal the deal in a 66-63 victory over Texas Southern on Saturday night.

Thanks to a Broughton jumper, Arkansas-Pine Bluff (6-12, 5-1 Southwestern Athletic) led 19-10 with 11:29 remaining in the first half but the Golden Lions watched Texas Southern go on a 21-10 run and take a 31-30 lead at the break.

To begin the second half, Fred Sturdivant gave the Tigers a 33-30 lead with a lay-up but Arkansas-Pine Bluff battled back, using a 12-2 run capped off by another Broughton jumper to take a 42-35 lead with 15:28 remaining in the game.

Lazabian Jackson had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists for Arkansas-Pine Bluff.

Omar Strong scored 18 points including four 3-pointers and dished out four assists to lead Texas Southern (5-14, 4-2).
