Coastal Carolina snaps VMI’s 5-win streak 72-49

CONWAY, S.C. (AP) — Anthony Raffa scored 21 points as Coastal Carolina defeated Virginia Military Institute 72-49 Saturday, snapping the Keydets’ five-game winning streak.

The Chanticleers (8-8, 3-2 Big South Conference) took control with a 12-2 run midway through the second half to lead 56-42 with 4:13 remaining. Warren Gillis, who finished with 12 points, had two baskets, including a 3-pointer, during the run.

Coastal Carolina closed the game by scoring 12 of the final 15 points.

The Keydets (9-8, 4-1), who had been averaging 82.6 points per game, were held to their lowest total since Jan. 23, 2008, an 85-41 loss to Winthrop.

Rodney Glasgow and Stan Okoye had 16 points apiece for VMI. Okoye also had 12 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the season, but he made just 6 of 21 shots. The Keydets shot 30.4 percent (17 of 56).

Okoye moved into fourth on VMI’s career rebounding list with 827.
