Mount St. Mary’s holds off CCSU 80-75

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) — Xavier Owens came off the bench for 18 points and Julian Norfleet hit four 3-pointers to lift Mount St. Mary’s over Central Connecticut State 80-75 Saturday in Northeast Conference play.

Norfleet went 4 of 6 from deep for 18 points, Rashaad Whack added 13, Shivaughn Wiggins 12, and Kristijan Krajina 10 for the Mountaineers (7-10, 2-4).

Adonis Burbage hit a 3-pointer as Mount St. Mary’s fell behind 60-52 with 9:29 left to play. From there, the Mountaineers used a 16-0 run to take the lead for good, 68-62. Whack capped the spurt with a 3-pointer.

CCSU (7-10, 3-3) cut the deficit to 72-71 at the 2:29 mark but Norfleet hit a layup and trey on back-to-back possessions to seal it.

Malcolm McMillan had 26 points to lead CCSU, which shot 56 percent (28 of 50) from the field but committed 17 turnovers.

The Mountaineers scored 22 points off those errors.
