The Vancouver Police Department has identified a man killed by officers Friday as Jesse J. France, 28.

The department’s press release follows:

On Jan. 18, the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, which is made up of personnel from the US Marshals Service, Washington State Department Of Corrections and the Vancouver Police Department, were attempting to locate and contact a wanted felony suspect, Jesse J. France, 28, at an apartment complex located in the 7500 block of E 18th Street.

Officers located Mr. France in a vehicle and during that contact, Mr. France rammed the undercover police vehicle that was occupied by officers from the task force. Those officers exited their vehicle, approached the suspect on foot and the situation was escalated by Mr. France which resulted in shots being fired by officers from the task force. Mr. France was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A veteran Vancouver Police Detective is currently on paid administrative leave pending completion of the investigation of the shooting.

Information related to the personnel from the US Marshals Service Deputy and the Washington State Department of Corrections will need to be requested from their respective agencies.

The Clark County Regional Major Crimes Team is currently conducting an investigation of the shooting and no information is available related to that active investigation.
