Presbyterian defeats Liberty 68-60 in Big South

CLINTON, S.C. (AP) — Khalid Mutakabbir scored 24 points Saturday night to lead Presbyterian to its first Big South victory of the season, 68-60 over Liberty.

The Blue Hose (5-14, 1-4) broke a four-game losing streak. The Flames fell to 5-14, 1-4 in Big South Conference play.

Mutakabbir took command early. In the last 10:24 of the first half, he scored 19 of Presbyterian’s 24 points to give the Blue Hose a 31-25 lead at halftime.

That lead reached double-figures in the second half before Liberty cut it to five points with 1:18 left. But Presbyterian made 5 of 6 from the foul line down the stretch to clinch it, finishing 18 of 23 at the stripe. Liberty was 11 for 18.

Jordan Downing scored 14 points for Presbyterian, and Joshua Clyburn had a double-double (11 points, 10 boards).

Davon Marshall led Liberty with 14 points. Casey Roberts added 13 and Tavares Speaks 11.
