Three people were displaced after a fire broke out in a central Vancouver house Sunday night.

Firefighters were dispatched at 9:47 p.m. to 5713 N.E. 51st St., in the Roads End neighborhood, where crews found heavy black smoke coming from the one-story house, Vancouver Fire Capt. Kevin Murray said.

The residents left the home before firefighters arrived, Murray said, allowing crews to attack the flames.

“Due to the amount of water (fire crews) used, neighbors are going to need to be careful for ice on 51st Street,” Murray said Monday. “It was in the low 20s last night when they were out fighting that fire.”

No accidents had been reported on 51st Street as of Monday night.

The local chapter of the American Red Cross is providing assistance for the occupants. County property records show the house is owned by Barbara Johnson and Levan Johnson Jr., who have a mailing address in Gresham, Ore.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office.
