NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — Pendarvis Williams finished with 20 points, including six of Norfolk State’s last nine, as the Spartans outlasted Morgan State 73-71 Monday night for its fifth straight win.

Brandon Goode added 18 points and Rob Johnson had 17 for Norfolk State.

After a Williams 3-pointer gave Norfolk State (11-10, 6-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 51-39 lead, two Cedric Blossom free throws ignited an 18-4 run for Morgan State over the next 7 minutes to give the Bears just their second lead of the game, 57-55.

Norfolk State retook the lead and pushed their advantage to six, 64-58, with 2:52 left to play. From there, Morgan State (5-10, 2-2) twice sliced the deficit to two points but could not overtake the Spartans.

Morgan State outshot Norfolk State 48.1 percent (25 of 52) to 43.3 percent (26 of 60) but made just 17 of 26 free throws and committed 29 turnovers.
