North Carolina Central routs Howard 71-36

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Stanton Kidd posted 12 points and seven rebounds to lead North Carolina Central over Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference-foe Howard 71-36 Monday night for the Eagles’ fifth straight win.

Drimir Ferguson added 11 and Jay Copeland and Emanual Chapman scored 10 apiece for NC Central (11-7, 4-0), which got scoring contributions from all but two players and saw 11 different players log minutes. Kidd is averaging 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds during the Eagles’ current win streak.

NC Central led 11-7 before using an 11-1 run to jump ahead 22-8 midway through the first half. Howard (4-16, 1-5) made it 24-12 with two free throws but NC Central used another run, this time 16-2, to pull away. The Eagles led 40-15 at halftime.

NC Central shot a season-high 52 percent (22 of 42) and had 11 steals.

Mike Phillips had 12 rebounds for Howard but no Bison player posted double-figure points.
