The Monarchs took a quick lead, and the Hawks never could fully recover.

Hockinson cut it to four a couple times but we “couldn’t get it over the hump,” Hockinson coach Matt Gruhler said.

“We kept fighting, but they earned it,” he said. “When they needed a big offensive rebound, they got it. They made every big play.”

Heading into the night, three teams were tied for first in the 2A GSHL. Now, Hockinson is in third, a game behind Mark Morris and Washougal.

Jack Klodt and Taylor Ellensohn each scored 10 points to pace Hockinson. Wyatt Yearout had seven rebounds.

Hayden Tilton led Mark Morris with 14 points.

The Monarchs made 16 of 20 free throws, securing the win from the line in the fourth quarter.
