Letter: Violence is not the solution

The Columbian
Published: January 21, 2013, 4:00pm

It baffles me that a number of people who call themselves Christian seem to put more of their faith in their AK- 47s than in their Messiah as the answer to a violent world.

In my reading of the gospels, Jesus renounced violence as the way to salvation. Nowhere have I read that He resorted to an army, a sword, or even a knife to defend his beliefs. To me, His main message is that violence, especially calculated violence, gets us nowhere.
