Latest Eyman initiative advances to Legislature

Initiative activist Tim Eyman’s latest measure has advanced to the Legislature.

The secretary of state’s office says Initiative 517 was certified Wednesday to have more than enough signatures.

The initiative would set penalties for harassment of signature gatherers and signers and allow more time for signatures to be collected. It also would require that voters be allowed to vote on any initiative that qualifies for the ballot, even if a lawsuit has been filed against the measure.

The Legislature now has three choices with the initiative: pass it, send it to a public vote in November or send it to a public vote with an alternative.
