A suspect in a home intrusion and shooting in Hazel Dell early this morning remains at large. Minnehaha Street near Highway 99 has been reopened after being blocked by the police activity earlier.

Law enforcement also responded to a report of an armed robbery several blocks away from the shooting, and the suspect in that armed robbery roughly fit the description of the alleged shooter, Clark County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Fred Neiman said.

Deputies responded to a 911 call made by a woman about 1 a.m. and reported that an intruder entered her apartment at 1101 N.E. Minnehaha St. and shot an adult man inside, Neiman said.

The wounded man and occupants of the apartment managed to leave, and the gunshot victim was transported to an area hospital, Neiman said.

“At this point, SWAT has cleared the area and they are confident the assailant is no longer in the area,” he said. He said the incident did not appear to be a stranger home invasion.

“It has all the earmarks of being an incident that involves known associates,” he said.

Residents surrounding the area were evacuated, but the shooting suspect has still not been located. Neiman described the suspect as a male between 16 and 22 years old, 5 feet 8 inches tall, thin build and wearing dark clothing.

The suspect in an armed robbery that was reported about 5:30 a.m. at a convenience store in the 4500 block of St. Johns Boulevard “roughly fit” the description of the alleged shooter, Neiman said.
