Simmons sparks Nebraska-Omaha’s 67-59 win

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Justin Simmons scored 21 points and John Karhoff added 16 on Saturday and Nebraska-Omaha defeated UMKC 67-59.

Nebraska-Omaha (7-16, 4-6 Summit) trailed by 11 points at halftime, but outscored UMKC 37-18 in the second half.

Nebraska-Omaha was 13 of 26 from the field in the second half and converted 9 of 10 free-throw attempts. Meanwhile, UMKC (6-16, 3-6) hit made just 7 of 24 shots from the field after intermission.

C.J. Carters scored 11 points to help the Nebraska-Omaha cause.

UMKC had a 38-30 rebounding advantage and 19-5 edge in bench points, but couldn’t convert those into a victory.

Thomas Staton and Brad Reid each scored 12 points for UMKC, and Reid added 13 rebounds.
