Robert Kranjec wins ski flying event in Norway

VIKERSUND, Norway (AP) — Robert Kranjec of Slovenia cleared 230 meters in both rounds to win a ski flying event Sunday for his first individual ski jump World Cup victory of the season.

Kranjec held a big lead after jumping 231.5 meters in the first round, and then managed 230 in the second to win with 416.5 points. Michael Neumayer of Germany was second, 11 points behind. Gregor Schlierenzauer, who won Saturday’s event to tie the record for most career World Cup victories with 46, was another 5.5 points back in third.

Schlierenzauer holds a big lead in the overall standings with 1,000 points, 243 ahead of Anders Bardal of Norway.
