Parking woes, car prowls in Shumway

Shumway — Car prowls and parking problems have gotten the attention of the Shumway Neighborhood Association, which reminds everyone in its most recent newsletter that an experienced thief can get into your car in less than 30 seconds, and that a typical car prowl takes less than two minutes. Avoid getting prowled by choosing a well-lit place to park and by using locks, exterior lights and motion-detector lights. Meanwhile, Shumway has adopted a plan: this month, neighbors and businesses are being notified about parking regulations. In February, abandoned vehicles will be tagged and documented for police, and a volunteer Neighbors on Watch patrol will deploy an Automated License Plate Recognition camera system to come through the neighborhood to identify stolen vehicles.
