MALIBU, Calif. (AP) — Matt Carlino hit two free throws and a big 3-pointer in the final 63 seconds, giving BYU a 63-61 victory over Pepperdine on Thursday night.

The Cougars trailed 59-58 after Jordan Baker hit a 3-pointer for Pepperdine with 1:12 remaining. Carlino’s free throws with 1:03 left put BYU ahead for good. After a Waves miss, BYU ran down the shot clock and Carlino made a fall-away 3-pointer at the top of the circle to put the Cougars ahead 63-59 with 14 seconds left.

Tyler Haws led BYU (17-6, 7-2 West Coast) with 21 points — his 15th game of 20-plus points this season. Brandon Davies added 20 points and 12 rebounds, and Carlino finished with 12 points.

The Waves (10-11, 2-6), who led by as many as 12 points in the second half, got 17 points from Stacy Davis, 16 from Nikolas Skouen and 10 from Baker.
