DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman says it was his call to lay off the top assistant of coach Tom Thibodeau.

Forman said Monday it was the best decision for the Bulls to not renew the contract of Ron Adams, who had rejoined the Bulls in 2010 after serving as an assistant with Oklahoma City. He earlier had a five-year run in Chicago from 2003 to 2008.

Head coaches in the NBA generally set their staffs. Forman downplayed the idea of any friction with Thibodeau over the Adams decision.
