Letter: Stonier voted properly

The Columbian
Published: June 30, 2013, 5:00pm

I want to thank Rep. Monica Stonier, D-Vancouver, for her courage to stand up and say “no” to the state transportation revenue bill that included funding for Columbia River Crossing. I am a very liberal Democrat in her 17th Legislative District and would support a solution to transportation in the Portland-Vancouver metro area. I support light rail into Clark County, in fact deeper into the county than the CRC proposes.

The current plan is inadequate because the traffic jam is near downtown Portland, at the Rose Quarter. The plan will do nothing to reduce traffic and increase the flow of goods. Vancouver residents are carrying the burden of costs.

Please, Rep. Stonier, do not change your vote. Send the CRC to a rest stop until they can figure out how to realistically solve the transportation problem for the entire region, not just for 500 yards from shore-to-shore on the river. Again, I thank Stonier for this courageous and correct vote.
