Letter: Adults triumph over others’ rights

The recent U.S. Supreme Court rulings on marriage are in a sense fair. Because sexual practice has gotten so disconnected from its procreative purpose, one could say it’s only fair to expand the meaning of marriage to all sorts of sexual encounters. Where this goes wrong though is its validation of sexual promiscuity in society. Promiscuity either directly or indirectly contributes to the killing of preborn children by abortion. In the former case by the actual act, in the latter by hypersexualizing society.

From beginning to end, the arguments about marriage fairness are wrong. The norms of marriage should protect children first, and the expansion of sexual immorality means they will only be killed more. Homosexual marriage is another step backwards in sound social policy. Adults have again prevailed over the rights of children, especially their right to life.
