FOREST GROVE, Ore. — The 4-foot-long corn snake inside the engine compartment of a pickup truck in the Portland suburb of Forest Grove was lucky that Officer Jeremy Lazenby was the one responding to the “animal call.”

Lazenby likes snakes. His 13-year-old son even owns an albino corn snake.

After a half hour of poking and prodding on the night of June 27, Lazenby was able to grab the snake, put it in a pillowcase and bucket and put it in his patrol car.

The Oregonian reports that when Lazenby’s shift ended, he took the snake home and fed it a live mouse. He says it was very hungry.

He figures the snake was a pet and has placed an ad in the lost and found section of Craigslist. If no one claims the snake, he says his family will keep it.

The officer had the snake checked by a vet Wednesday and learned the red-colored reptile is a healthy female.
