RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes and veteran defenseman Mike Komisarek have agreed to a one-year deal worth $700,000.
The team announced the move Friday, about 30 minutes after teams were allowed to start signing free agents.
One of the Hurricanes’ top priorities this offseason was their defense. Earlier this week, they picked up defenseman Andrej Sekera in a draft-day trade with Buffalo for defenseman Jamie McBain.
The 31-year-old Komisarek played just four games for Toronto last season and spent part of the year in the minor leagues. The Maple Leafs made him a free agent by buying out the final year of his contract.
He has 14 goals and 63 assists in 519 career games with Toronto and Montreal.
