Random draw to be used for WCup qualifier tickets

CHICAGO (AP) — Tickets for the U.S. men’s World Cup qualifier against Mexico will be distributed through a random draw because of high interest in the Sept. 10 match in Columbus, Ohio.

Fans can apply for up to four tickets from July 19-22. A computer program will then randomly distribute the tickets. Fans won’t be charged unless they are chosen in the draw.

U.S. Soccer says the random draw is being used to ensure tickets go to fans, not brokers. It also prevents a rush to purchase tickets as soon as they go on sale.

There also will be a pre-sale for certain priority groups, beginning June 30.
