MILWAUKEE (AP) — Cincinnati Reds catcher Ryan Hanigan is out of the lineup for the opener of a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Manager Dusty Baker says Hanigan is “sore” and declined to elaborate. He also says Hanigan was analyzed by a doctor Monday afternoon.
Hanigan is batting a career-low .196 in 45 games this season. He missed time earlier in the season with a strained left oblique and a sore left thumb.
Devin Mesoraco got the start at catcher for Homer Bailey’s first outing since his second career no-hitter. Mesoraco has been dealing with a back issue.
