Letter: Don’t give up on moving light rail

Some of you may have taken Joyce Boles’ July letter “Powerful agency must take lead” lightly, but it is exactly what we need to do. If we use the Amtrak bridge for light rail, we will arrive directly in downtown Portland without having to make stops along the way. There is room near the train station in Vancouver for a parking garage and there are buses and MAX lines at the Portland station.

Then we can run the light rail next to state Highway 14 to the Glenn Jackson bridge and across to the airport with another parking garage beside Highway 14. Let the I-5 bridge stand alone and we probably won’t need a toll. The government seems to come up with money from somewhere when they need it.
